Meet Geoff Murphy

Flight Paramedic, Lead Educator & CEO

“I am currently a flight paramedic and have been in EMS for over 10 years. I remember going through paramedic school and teaching myself by reading textbooks over and over again. Frustrated that I was only making progress in small steps, understanding just the surface of medicine. When I became a teacher around 7 years ago I became committed to teaching students why we do the things we do. I wanted to teach EMTs to dig below the surface of medicine and truly understand it. I've taught thousands of students in several colleges, as well as consulted with colleges to help improve their courses.”

Meet Mike Turconi

Advanced Care Paramedic & Education Manager

“My name is Michael Turconi and I am an Italian living in St. John’s Newfoundland since 2018. Right now I am working as an Advanced Care Paramedic. Prior to moving to Canada, I spent eleven years in the Italian Army, most of them in our Tier 1 Special Operations Unit, first as an operator and then as a NATO Special Operations Combat Medic. I did three tours of duty to Iraq, including Mosul in 2017 which was the highlight of my career from a medical standpoint. Lots of trauma! For the last couple of years, I have worked in training and education as well. I teach for NATO at the International Special Training Center in Germany on a regular basis, and Canadian military and police through Strategic Operations Tactical training out of Alberta. I have also been a lecturer for the University College Cork and the University of Limerick in Ireland. Other than the usual certs, I have a TCCC instructor card, I recently finished my degree in Paramedic Studies with a thesis on prehospital REBOA in combat and did critical care training and got my FP-C while I was in the military. Currently also an ACP for eastern health. My core experience and passion lie in advanced prehospital trauma management. I am a firm believer that teaching should be substantiated by field experience so that is where I intend to focus my contribution to MYM.”

Meet Matt Gehm

Paramedic & Educator

“Hello everyone! I’m Matt Gehm. I’m from Upstate New York and I have been in EMS for 8 years now. Currently, I am a paramedic who works primarily in rural areas but I do work in an urban environment as well. A little bit about myself and my background, I got into EMS because I wanted a way to serve my community and anyone who needs help. I really like the ability to meet someone for the first time and help through some of the most difficult times in their life. For my education, I received my EMT-Basic while in college studying Biology and Chemistry at a State University in New York. I practiced as a Basic to build up my knowledge and then eventually got my paramedic education in New York as well. From there I went on to Medical school (Currently in my Third Year out of Four). My passions in medicine include anatomy and physiology with a particular focus on cardiac and liver physiology. I am planning on going into Emergency Medicine for my residency and then following it with a Fellowship in Critical Care. Afterward, I plan on being very involved with EMS education serving as a medical director for ground and air medical services. I’m very grateful to be a part of Master Your Medics and please do not hesitate to ask me any questions!"

Jenna Laraque

Paramedic & Educator

Hello! My name is Jennah Laraque (La-Rack). While I am brand new to Master Your Medics, I am not new to emergency medicine. I have been a paramedic for four years and currently, I work as a career firefighter/paramedic while simultaneously volunteering for my local fire department. My volunteer department also offers EMT courses that I assist in teaching. Prior to that, I was a flight paramedic for rotor-wing aircraft. Before that, it was a combination of a private ambulance and smaller fire departments as an EMT and then as a paramedic for a total of seven years of experience thus far. I was able to obtain my AAS in Emergency Medical Services and in time would like to pursue my bachelor's in Advanced Paramedic Practice. Having experienced different career avenues, emergency medicine thus far has been not only a great career but a passion. I am very excited to be able to pass on everything that I have experienced and learned to those who are also as passionate as I am!"

Meet Dan Klapaukh

Paramedic & Educator

"So I completed my undergrad from Whitireia, New Zealand in 2016. In 2017 I moved to the UK to work for the South East Coast ambulance service. While there I did some in-house education, and some casual teaching at Canterbury Christchurch University and was selected to be an advanced life support instructor for the resuscitation council along with a prehospital pediatric life support instructor for ALSG. After a few years there I had a brief break working at Big White ski resort in Canada. Since then I moved back to New Zealand to work as a paramedic and am now an intensive care paramedic intern. In terms of personal interests, I'm a big fan of trail running at the moment, travelling when I can and skiing when climate change gives me the chance."

Dean Stockley

Flight Paramedic & Educator

"Hi everyone! I'm Dean, a critical care/flight paramedic in the Boston area with just under 10 years of experience in EMS. I’ve worked both rural and urban 911 before getting into critical care and I love anything having to do with shock, resuscitation and taking care of critically-ill patients. After paramedic school, I studied biology/chemistry in college and graduated with a BS in 2018. I love teaching EMT/paramedic students. My favourite part of teaching is explaining pathophysiology and bridging the gap between the classroom and the real world to students gain the confidence they need to succeed in high-stress environments. Outside of EMS, I enjoy spending time with my family, going on hikes, watching Star Wars stuff and reading anything Tolkien has written."
